Jun. 29th, 2011 12:23 pm Tiger Haven Charity Auction Update

Hey all! With MFM only two months away it is time to be getting serious about your preparations before the convention. And don't forget the Tiger Haven Charity Auction we hold every year! Tiger Haven is a nonprofit charity organization so they depend on donations from people like you who love and want to protect our big cats like tigers, lions and more. That also means your donations are tax deductible so just another reason to give!

We have already received some donations but every bit helps. If you will be unable to attend the convention, or can't bring your donation because you are flying you are welcome to ship your donations to me, PrincessB. Contact me on the MFM website or lj or wherever and I can get you the address to ship to. If you are shipping from within the United States please try to ship by the beginning of August for best chance of getting it to me. If shipping from outside the USA, send the sooner the better because it can take up to two months for things to get around.

Some of the things we have already received are; a gift certificate to Build-a-bear, some new animal themed drinking cups, some Rainforest Cafe stuff and a Lion King lunch box, among other things.

If you are cleaning out your space, having a yard sale or even in your own personal shopping keep a look out for things that might be good in the charity auction. Some ideas; the wolf figurines you've had forever and don't really pay much attention to, clean them up and let them personalize someone else's space. The geeky video games or comics you find in the resale shop, or the Lion King item forgotten at the back of the shelf. Maybe you have an artistic talent or know someone who does, you could paint, draw or sew something unique just for the auction. If you know of someone who might have something great for the auction or could make something, don't hesitate to ask them.

Of course if you are going to be at MFM make sure to come check out the auction, you may find something to bid on! There are many changes planned for this years action and how things are done so come see what is new.

Every bit of money we can raise goes to Tiger Haven Sanctuary (TigerHaven.org) and is used to house, feed and care for their well over 200 rescued big cats. It takes a lot of food to feed that many cats and they all need adequate and safe shelters along with medical care to keep them healthy. These cats depend on the love and care they get at Tiger Haven Sanctuary and none of it would be possible without your donations. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated. We look forward to seeing you at the Tiger Haven Charity Auction at Mephit Fur Meet over Labor day weekend!

Oct. 17th, 2010 08:52 am Fabulous Movie Star

(well, paid extra at least ;) )

I went Friday and saw the movie! I am happy to report that while there are one or two scenes where there is a glimpse of me, there is one scene where I can be seen VERY well multiple times!

After seeing myself at the movie theater I went downtown to "The Stage on Broadway" for a release party for the movie. The party included Katrina Elam (star of the movie) showing up and singing a couple songs. Along with Katrina there was a VIP table set up right next to me, my fellow movie friends and our guys so we were right next to a big producer (or something like that), the talk show host from the movie and Dean Cain's father. (Dean Cain is best known as Superman from Lois and Clark and is the producer for Pure Country 2)

Video I took at the release party: That's My Man by Katrina Elam http://www.redgage.com/c-hffjif

My review of the movie: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/375589_review-of

Based on the books on your bookshelf, what conclusions would people draw about you?

That I like Dean Koontz, Mary Higgans Clark and Lurlean McDaniel too much.
Also that I have a very wide variety of interests. After Koontz, comes Clark, Guesz, McDaniel, then an odd mix of stuff like Grisham, and stuff titled "Hit List" and "Scorpions" then a bunch of religious books, then joke books and children's stories, then Harry Potter books, etc.

Suspense is the best but any well written story will be collected :)

Oct. 1st, 2010 11:49 am Woman's Retreat

This past weekend I went to Woman's Retreat at Indian Creek Camp. It's been 8 years since I was last at ICC, back when I was a counselor at Young Woman's Retreat. The Hendersonville SDA church paid for me to attend this year and I stayed in the cabin with the H-ville women so I got to get to know them better.

I decided to follow googles directions to get there instead of going the route I remember. I missed a turn and took a slightly longer route then normal but it was really pretty and enjoyable. Not long after checking in it was time to go to soy candle making class I signed up for. I've not done soy candles but I have done most other options. The woman teaching made and sold soy candles for a living, sadly, I knew more about candle making then she did. O.o The H-ville women that were in the class with me kept having questions and it was clear the teacher either just simply did not know or would just make a guess, I kept answering with the real answer.
Then we left and went down to the boats. I got to ride the speed boat twice, so relaxing. Then we had supper and the evening meeting. Hyveth Williams was the speaker for the weekend and she is a GREAT speaker. I had a migraine and wasn't feeling well but I didn't want to leave because she was such a good interesting speaker. I bought the DVD for that meeting, would have liked to buy all (only 16 dollars) but money is sadly short.

Saturday morning before breakfast I went out to my favorite spot on campus and looked at how much had changed in that area since I was last there. Took a bunch of pictures then returned for breakfast and the mornings meetings. After lunch I joined a couple of the H-ville ladies in the spa room and we pampered each other with massages and such. Then I went back down to the boats and rode the pontoon and the speed boat. The afternoon meeting was hands-on of putting our hand prints on a painted tree to represent God and being part of him. In the evening they had Gail our music leader play songs for half an hour. She is hilarious. Her last song was about hot flashes, she had pulled 4 older ladies up on the stage and they were fanning themselves with the song books. I carry my fabric fans everywhere because I'm always hotter then everyone else. Near the end of the song I got up, took my fan and went to Gail at the piano and fanned her with my fan. Everyone thought it was hilarious and "the perfect ending to the song".
They also had a drawing and my name was pulled so I won a bottle of bubbly (non-alcoholic sparkling cider). At the expo of Christian women who have businesses in the area I got a couple pretty fabric quarters, a stack of inspirational cards and two mail cards with inspirational sayings that Cassie Sloan was selling.

Sunday after a last meeting and brunch I went out to my spot again and took a bunch of pictures and enjoyed watching the day get going. On the way out to my spot I kept hearing noises in the woods that were clearly more then just a bird or squirrel. After a bit I looked closely and saw a young buck munching away. I stopped and took a bunch of pictures of him. He clearly thought I was fine and went about his business, after I took a bunch of pictures I continued on while he stayed and munched.

Over all the weekend was great. I missed Walter and my Spooks but it was only a weekend. Before I left I put my bags by the door and went to shut down my computer, when I returned Spooks had lied down next to my bags as if to say "NOW all your bags are packed, lets go". Poor Spooks never wants me to leave the house. :)

Sep. 17th, 2010 07:43 pm creativity

I need more creative and thoughtful friends! I badly want to do craft exchanges and such but every place either the people are not interested in doing anything or say they will do stuff but never actually do... :(
I like creating for others and I like surprises in the mail, and I've seen some neat ideas on craft blogs but can't find people to not be lazy.
I'm totally broke and not certain about making rent, yet I still would find ways to do something for an exchange.
The secret sister program at church doesn't start till the first of October at least.
Oh for some creative, thoughtful and trustworthy friends...
